A45 Chowns Mill Roundabout Improvement Scheme

Progress report - July 2020

Despite COVID-19 challenges, which has affected supply of materials and staffing, we have made some good progress.

Station Road progress

Over the next four weeks, we'll be working in the area of Station Road (A5028). You will begin to see a greater transformation with the installation of new kerbs, drainage, footways, infrastructure as well as the installation of the new Bus Stop base, all in preparation for tarmacking. We'll be carrying out this work during the day.

Station Road (A5028) Higham Ferrers transformation – July 2020

We're continuing to develop the new 'half hamburger' island at the end of Station Road and the new lane in the vicinity of the Old Mill. This will become more recognisable by the end of August.

A6 Bypass: Northbound queue jumping

We've received several complaints from customers about motorists bypassing queues on the A6 Bypass southbound from Rushden. They have been using the inside lane (A45 WB only) as a short-cut to jump the queue to travel north on the A6.

We are asking that all motorists abide by the signage and lane markings that are in place for their safety and the safety of others.

Meet the team

During July / August, you'll be able to meet members of the project team to ask any questions about the scheme. We'll be posting invites through our nearest residents' doors to join us for a brief street meeting.

The meetings will be held outside to allow for social distancing and in line with government COVID-19 advice. Groups will be limited to no more than 6 people and there will be 3 staff members on hand to safely divide groups or step away as necessary.

Fly-tipped tyres – dumped by Fishing Lake

As you know fly tipping is illegal, and can carry heavy fines. We were made aware that tyres had been illegally dumped on the A45 by the Fishing Lake, we quickly took action to remove them. We gave the tyres to a nearby Animal Charity in Irthlingborough, N.A.N.N.A. who will put them to good use as planting pots and sand baths for chickens and geese.

What's next?

From w/c 3/08, we'll be working at night for around 4 weeks to enable us to install drainage and ducting across the existing lanes around the roundabout.

We're unable to carry out this work from behind the Multiblock system so will need to complete this work at nights using road closures. It is safer to work during the night, due reduced traffic volumes.

Road closure information is detailed below.

We'd like to advise local residents to expect more noise and vibration, particularly during the first half of the shifts, whilst we carry out the breaking out of the carriageway.

We apologise in advance for any disruption caused during this essential work.

Please call our 24/7 customer line on 0333 0124 596 if you wish toreport any issues or concerns.

Reporting issues on our network

To make sure we can keep our roads in the East Mids in tip-top condition, we're running an online trial until October this year. If you spot something wrong with our roads, please let us know. This could be anything from a broken sign or barrier, to litter, overgrown vegetation or potholes. To report any issues, please visit our webpage: https://report.highwaysengland.co.uk/

Please complete our customer communication survey

During July 2020 and until 7 August 2020, we are undertaking a short survey to improve our understanding of how we are perceived and how we can enhance our communications.

We would be very grateful if you would complete the short online survey by clicking here.
