Bee Squared Project Update
The Town Council has been delivering the 'Bee Squared' project over the last two years and it has been a great success.
In the first year we started with delivering 1,500 packets of wildflower seeds to all the primary schools in Higham and any remaining packets were given to residents and some local businesses to distribute to their customers. The packets consisted of Corncockle, Cornflower, Corn Chamomile, Corn Marigold, and Common Poppy.
In the second year, due to feedback from businesses that never received any seed packets to distribute, we increased the amount of packets to 2,500 and distributed them all to the primary schools, to the secondary school and to all local businesses. We also gave out seed packets at the Town's Farmers Market and on Big Green Week.
This year, we are increasing the amount of seed packets to 3000 and again will distribute to all of Higham's schools and businesses. Seed packets will be available for residents at the Farmers' Market and at the Town Hall from late March.
Cllr Gerald Kelly states "this is a great project which is designed to help bees and other pollinators which have massively declined over the past 50 years. In addition the project fits in nicely with all the council's other projects to enhance green spaces and to encourage diversity of wildlife, flowers and trees."
